Hohensalzburg Fortress
It was in 1077 that Landesfürst Gebhard 1. von Helffenstein began with the building of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, yet the building was only completed in the 17th century. The emblem of the city, lording it over the city, can be seen from practically every angle. The fortress layout contains the romanesque, walled palace, the living quarters, a church and an adjoining building. Hohensalzburg is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in Austria.
